Wasatch BC Conditions – 12/10/2013
Executive Summary – Pretty good for this time of year, but not great yet. B- at best.
In terms of fishing, right now the central Wasatch is like catching endless 6″ trout. It’s fun in a pinky-dink kind of way where you make 6-12 great turns, then eat shit in rocks, logs and bushes. If you lower your expectations and don’t care about your skis, you probably won’t be disappointed.
Avalanche-wise, the best and deepest snow is on high, north facing slopes, which is exactly where the greatest avalanche danger is. Places like the Argenta headwall, upper Red/White Baldy & Pfiefferhorn, Wolverine, Cardiac and upper Stairs will all be very dicey right now, and for the foreseeable future.
Like most of 2011/12 and 2012/13, the current key to good skiing is a mix of mid elevation, sheltered and north facing terrain which is steep enough to ski, but not so steep it slides. The tops are blown out, the lower elevations haven’t filled in yet, south facing is boney and the east & west are smoked by the wind. It’s hunt & peck at best, but still rewarding when you link a few.

you are the best describer-of-things.
Thanks Brody – to paraphrase George W. Bush… I’m a describer. I describe things. :)
