Ski Mountaineering Course in Ushuaia, Argentina
Although it is a long ways to go for a two day course, if you happen to be in Ushuaia (perhaps on your way to Antarctica…), Ice Axe Expeditions is putting on basic and advanced ski mountaineering courses. The courses take place on November 4th & 5th and cover a wide variety of mountain skills. Taught by Antarctic veteran Rich Meyer and other Ice Axe Guides, the courses are great primers for skiing in Antarctica.
For 2016 Ice Axe is excited to offer an additional backcountry ski and ski mountaineering training before our classic Antarctic Adventure Cruise. The group will be divided into two training group programs: the first will be for those relatively new to backcountry skiing and looking to build their skills, become more comfortable with their gear and learn basic ski mountaineering techniques. The course will cover proper backcountry skiing technique, ice axe and crampon use, and roped travel. The second group will be for experienced backcountry skiers interested in building their ski mountaineering skills and digging deeper into the skills necessary for crevasses rescue and will provide a review of backcountry skiing technique, ice axe and crampon use, roped travel, as well as crevasse rescue systems and snow anchors. This is a great course for dialing in your ski mountaineering technique.
The course will take place on the glacier in Ushuaia, just a 15 minute drive from downtown. The course will be run by Ice Axe guides and limited to 8 participants per program. The cost is $525 for two full days of guiding and instruction. Hotel accommodations are not included. Ice Axe does have a room block at the group hotel and can assist with the booking of any additional hotel nights that you may need at the group hotel, Hotel Albatros. There are also many other affordable accommodations that we can recommend in town.
Please let us know today if you are interested in reserving a place on either of these ski training programs.
