NE Face of the Pfiefferhorn

| April 1, 2011

We interrupt air bag reviews for this skiing message…

The NE Face of the Pfiefferhorn in all of its gory glory. Rat-a-tat-tat... hang on to your hat. The "XX" marks the anchors at the top of the 30m rappel.

And the boot of choice for the day is... the Scarpa Maestrale. I've been skiing in these all year and love them.

Noah busting tracks below the NE face. At this point it was window-pane crust on top of muck. Confidence was not high.

Andy Jacobsen creeping towards the anchors after some prolonged sketchy skiing.

Two 3" five-piece 3/8" stainless-steel bolts with Fixe Rap anchors. Go ahead - haul your Hemi up here. They'll hold.

Andy calmly checking his camera exposure while Noah checks out a different type of exposure behind him.

Happiness is a warm rap anchor.

I love the wild, rugged feel of this little slice of the Wasatch.

Noah starting down the rappel.

Sucess! We're alive! Noah had been stormed or iced off the NE three times before, so not only was he (and all of us) psyched to have finally done it, but it was also the last line he had to ski to tick off all of "The Chuting Gallery." Nice job Noah!

  2. Andy says:

Congrats to Noah! Way to squeeze in the last few this year. And, thanks for the anchor Andrew. Beefy! Whatever old pins were supposed to be there were impossible to find. Cool line indeed.

  3. Phil says:

    Andrew,
Looks pretty impressive, thanks for the post! A quick question…where can I pick up your book at? seems we are out of stock at Backcountry.com…can we contact you directly to buy some out of the box you use to weight the back of your truck down?

    Thanks!

  4. Ty Falk says:

Hell of a acccomplishment Noah!!! Congrats!!

    Sick.

Certifiably lacking judgement skills. Your mother would be sick with grief if she knew.

    But she doesn’t…right?

  6. Andrew says:

It’s all “cross country skiing” to her, bless her heart. ;)

  7. JD says:

Are you and Noah sporting the exact same outerwear? Boots too?
    Mancrush.
Awesome. I am not hating, just jealous :)

  8. Derek says:

I guess it’s only fitting Noah completed the last of all the lines in your book with you.

Looked like a fine day to be out.

  9. Andrew says:

It was accidental/coincidental, but fun and fitting nonetheless.

My shorts are still in the laundry after reading that one!

    Nice job.

  12. Phil says:

    nohow…

Why in the world would you part with that gem? Surly you jest!

  13. nohow says:

Just jesting! Forgot to add the little smiley face. :)
