How to Skin Argenta

| February 18, 2013

… in 3,246 not so easy steps. I think I enjoy skinning up Argenta almost as much as skiing down as it’s a fun challenge and a very efficient way to gain vertical. With the track shown below, I start out with no climbing pegs, immediately go to high peg, stay that way for a long time, go down to mid peg in the middle, then high again all the way to the top.  There is not a lot of wandering around, and except for the section going through the NE headwall trees, it is fairly sheltered from avalanches.  That said, it does have a catastrophic 50+ year full track history to it.

OK but PIANO and Contour!!!!! When I let them get there first, I have noticed the single lappers break a ridiculously steep trail and have no idea what a contour is. I also get out of the tubes a bit more, better views. And who is the hermit living in the shack down low?

  2. Andrew says:

Hi Chris – I accidentally skied down on top of that shack the other day and was wondering the same thing. It looks like it is a work in process.

Where is this in relation to Mt. Kessler?

  4. Andrew says:

Argenta is the major avalanche slide path on the NWish face of Kessler.

Great map with perfect description!! Was looking for a quick tour to do yesterday before hopping on a plane back home after visiting a friend in SLC. Temps got a bit on the warm side but the snow managed to stay relatively good despite being a bit sun kissed from the day before. Amazing views from the top in all directions. Would love to rebate this line after a refresher storm. You guys got it good out in the Wasatch, Thanks Andrew!

Hi Mark – glad to hear it. I’ll work on a few other maps as time allows.
