Solidarity Peak Video

Two videos in two days?  Yes, that’s what living in the shadow of the Sundance Film Festival will do for you.

This one is a video of a single run, Peak Solidarity, in the Wrangell-St.Elias Mountains.  Before skiing this peak I happened to see it in a photo book and of the entire book, this is the one that really stood out as it is such a beautiful, classic pyramid peak.  It has a 5,000′ plus ridgeline that snakes all the way up it, but aside from that, it is steep and intimidating all around.

A special thanks goes out to Paul & Donna Claus of the Ultima Thule Lodge, as well as Ruedi Homberger and Retro Ruesch for making this happen.

The video was shot with a VHoldr Contour HD 1080 camera which I had just picked up and was playing around with the settings on.  Unfortunately, the snow is a little washed out, but you get the idea – deep, soft and fluffy.

  • Great video Andrew. Love the narration in addition to the ambient noise from the trip. It’s great to hear some cool music and watch skiing but it’s even better to understand the unique aspects of the trip and hear about which parts of it stood out to you.

  • Thanks for the feedback Ben. As much as anything, my video’s kept getting censored by YouTube for pirated music, so narration seemed like a good option. It was easier than I first thought, so I’ll probably be doing more of it.

  • Nice Turns & entertaining video!

  • It’s amazing you can speak so eloquently and without the slightest hint of exhaustion while skiing!! What is your strategy?!?

  • Awesome video, Andrew! I like the narration too. Good storytelling. You show some interesting parts of the route and the boating at the end was funny.

  • nice Andrew! That is such a cool place, would love to get back there again one day. Looks like the usual 3-4 people tracking the place out on every one else;-)
